National Puzzle Day

Did you know that there was a

National Puzzle Day?

I totally did not!

How could I NOT know there was a

National Puzzle Day?

I mean really?

I am pretty much

OBSESSED with Puzzle Pieces.

And

I am THE COOKIE PUZZLE.

Some one should have told me!

Hello

Tap Tap Tap

Someone SHOULD have told me!

So...there I was

In my truck

driving home from work

Jamming to

Toby Mac

Do you listen to Toby Mac?

You totally should!

He totally rocks!

And, I had it turned up

Way to loud.

Then the song ended.

And the DJ (do they still call them DJs, or am I dating myself?),

announced that TODAY was

National Puzzle Day!

OMG...I am the worst cookie decorator EVER!

So..I picked up Collin from his grandma's

rushed home

and quickly "googled" it.

Yep

January 29th is National Puzzle Day!

Thankfully, being the prepared cookie decorator that I am,

I had a few rectangle and square cookies

base coated white, ready to decorate!

Woot Woot!
(see, Toby Mac makes me young, and I can say things like WOOT WOOT)

I grabbed my edible markers

and

Decorated some cookies for

National Puzzle Day!

Nothing fancy...but...I now have a few
designs for April, which is

Autism Awareness Month!

So...here you go

Cookies for

National Puzzle day!

I have to say...I am pretty proud of them, I hope you liked them!

Until next time

Cookie Swap Cookies - Part Two

Last week, I shared with you cookies I made for a cookies swap I did,

you can see them Here

Today, I want to share the cookies that

I and Collin got in the mail!

I had no idea what to expect...or what I might get,

But let me tell you..

When I opened the box

Collin and I were both in SHOCK!

Collin was grinning from ear to ear!

I was in tears!

As we pulled out cookie after cookies,

we were both shocked and amazed!

The package was from

The Amazing Jodi of Serendipitous Sweets!

If you are not familiar with Jodi..please take some
time to check out her amazing cookies!

Some of my favorites are These, and These

and of course THESE!

So....would you like to see what we got?

Ok...prepare to be amazed!

First up Jodi made me some Christmas Daisies!  Daisies are my FAVORITE flower!

Then...I told the ladies in the swap, that Collin and I fight over cookies when

we get them in the mail, so she made cookies with our names on them! No more fighting!

Then...I pulled these beauties out of the box

PUZZLES!  Lots and Lots of Puzzles!

And in The Cookie Puzzle colors...be still my heart!

Then.....wrapped in red tissue paper, were the most amazing cookies

Cookies JUST FOR COLLIN!

OMG!

These are COOKIES!

Collin has collected Nutcrackers for years, he has well over 200 of them, we are
actually running out of room, but when Collin saw these cookies,
he quickly told me

"These are NOT for eating"
and they are now on display, with the rest of his Nutcrackers!

Thank you soo much Jodi, Collin and I really enjoyed the cookies!

Until next time....

Toodles 2012...you have been great!

So....2012 is coming to an end..and 2013 is upon us.

Is it just me, or did this year just
fly by?

I mean really....it seemed like just yesterday,
I was celebrating Valentines day?

I think time moves faster as you get older.

I remember when I was younger,

Summer Vacation lasted FOREVER,
now...you blink and it is over!

And the period of time between Thanksgiving and Christmas,

oh my...they say it was 4 weeks this year,
personally...I think it was 4 days...but whatever!

I baked and decorated TONS of cookies this year.

Not a lot compared to some of the great cookiers out there,

but all of these cookies were done while
working a full time job.

And...I only have 3 hours each night to work on cookies,
because my lovely son, Collin, closes the kitchen and cookie room at
9 pm...SHARP from Sunday-Thursday.

He is STRICT
Friday and Saturday I can work late into the night, or till early in the morning,
but other then those two night..

HE SHUTS ME DOWN!

No matter how many cookies I have to do, or
how far behind I am.....9 PM....no exceptions!

So....no matter how the volume of cookies coming out of my
kitchen compares to others,

I am pretty proud of what I can do in a limited
amount of time!

So...I put together some collages of some of my
favorite cookies of 2012 for you

Lets take a look, shall we?

So, there you have it

my 2012 in cookies!

I would like to be able to tell you that great and wonderful
things are in store next year for The Cookie Puzzle,
but that would be a lie.

I plan on keep doing what I am doing....

simple cookies

simple blog

simple person

it does not take much to make this gal happy!

Hopefully though

I will post more

push my self more

maybe do a tutorial here and there

but mostly...I just want to be true to me

and hopefully that is good enough to make
a few people happy,
that would make me happy!

Wishing you a Happy and Blessed
2013

until next time,

Paying it Forward...with cookies

In my previous three posts,
I shared about some amazing things
that happened to my family and I .

First, I had an Auction, and raised money
for my son's class.

Then

Collin was blessed with a
new iPad, you can read about it

Then....my AMAZING friends, surprised
us with love, encouragement, cookies and gift card

If you want to cry tears of joy, you can read all about it Here!

Weeks before all of this happened, Collin and I planned
to mail cookies to
for their bake sale.

Baking cookies for them, has always made me feel good,
knowing that every single dollar raised, goes to purchase
an iPad for a deserving child.

Wanna see what I sent?

Well...
of course I made
Puzzle Cookies!

Then I made some pumpkin cookies
but I HAD to include a puzzle piece!

And I made one more cookie design...

And I have to say...I LOVE THEM!

Remember me telling you about
Well, Patrick and the PIP gang are amazing!

They make custom cookie cutters and presses,
and the customer service is TOP NOTCH!

Well, they made a cookie press, of the
Cookies for iPad logo, of course I bought one!
And I used it for the cookies I sent them!
I have to say, once again, I am in LOVE with
PIP!
AND...I used
This recipe shared by the
legendary Sugarbelle!
OMG! Talk about Yummy!
You HAVE to try these cookies!
WOW!
So...using the amazing cookie press, and the yummy cookie recipe
I made cookies!

Collin and I will be making cookie for them again,
in December, for a VERY SPECIAL event...shhh..
don't tell, it's a secret!

Until next time....

Humbled (Part One)

If you were to ask me what my favorite part of my cookie adventure is
my response would be the same every time.
Friendships!
Since I have started this cookie adventure,
I have met some of the
nicest,
friendliest,
sweetest,
kindest,
most generous,
talented,
encouraging,
supportive,
and funniest
people on the
face of the earth.
I have known this for a long time,
but last month,
the depth of those friendships
the kindness of those friendships,
the generosity of those friendships
exceeded even my wildest imagination.

I started writing this post..and it kind of
grew
and
grew
and grew

so,
I have decided to break it into
several parts
I hope you will not mind
and that you will come back for
more parts
I promise, it is a great story,
a touching story
and a story of how
people all over the place
changed my life, and the life of Collin.
I started baking cookies as treats for my son, Collin's
Special Service Class.
Then it kinda grew, and grew and grew.

Last month, I was a little discourage at the funding given to
the Special Services Classes at my son's school.
So...I sprung into action, baked some cookies
and offered 2 dozen up for Auction on my Facebook Page.

I decided to bake and decorate puzzle cookies,
because I love puzzle cookies
and I AM The Cookie Puzzle.

BUT!

I wanted to do some special puzzle cookies,
and my friend Jodi from Serendipitous Sweets
made These, and when I asked her, she gave me
permission to use her cookies as inspiration!

These are Jodi's cookies...NOT mine!
I have to tell you, when I saw these cookies, I cried!

The quilted puzzle look just amazed me!

They were perfect in every way.

So, I made some quilted puzzle cookies

I post the auction, hoping that I might be able to raise $50 for the class.
BOY was I WRONG!
Soon my friends were sharing, and sharing, and the bids
started coming in.

At the end of the Auction, thanks to

and

The Auction raised
$225
for the class!

I was shocked once again!

See...Very Special People!

I was overwhelmed, Collin was stunned, and his teacher was amazed!

We now had $225 to spend on the classroom!

What to buy?
What to buy?
That was the question!

We have bought a few small things, order some things, and trying
to get as much as we can.

But we thank you!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

You will never know how much your generosity mean to these kids.

For once, they get to feel special, they get to have the things that
make them happy, things that help them learn,
things that let them know they are SPECIAL!

The Auction ended on a Saturday,
I was so happy, so humbled, so grateful!

I was walking on cloud nine!

Little did I know what was about to happen!

Until next time.....

Giving Children with Autism a Voice

If you have followed me on my blog, or on Facebook, you know that Autism as touched me in a deep and personal way.  My son, Collin, has Autism.  Autism is a part of our everyday life, be it good or bad, for 15 years, Autism is a real life factor for us.

I struggled writing this post....truly struggled...it is a very personal subject to me, not personal, in that I want to "hide" it from anyone, I am an open book, ask me about me and my son, and I will tell you what I know, what I have learned, and how I deal with it.

It is personal to me, because in many ways, Autism, is my "normal'....it is just who I am, it is what I do, it is why I do the things I do on a daily basis....it is second nature to me...it is hard to explain...really hard to explain...but I will do my very best.

What is so hard for me is that Collin is on the "high" end of the spectrum, while he does have is little "Collinisms", he for the most part, is a pretty typical.  Well, typical if you consider Dr. Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory, typical, or Forrent Gump, or Rainman.  He is just Collin, we love and except him, for what he is, who he is, for what he can do, and what he can not do.

What makes this sooo hard.....is that I feel GUILT....deep seated, real guilt....Guilt because, I know how very lucky I am.  Lucky to have a child with Autism, who CAN talk....who has had years and years of Speech Therapy to help him "find" the words to communicate.  It breaks my heart to know that there are mommies out there who will never hear those words, that every mommy deserves to hear ' I LOVE YOU MOMMY!"

Heart broken...totally and completely HEART BROKEN.

BUT...this post is not about me....it is not about Collin....it is about

GIVING CHILDREN WITH AUTISM A VOICE!

Ten days ago, I received a message from Melissa, she asked for my help, and after hearing about the program she helps run...I jumped in with both feet...yelled from the roof top...and did all I could to help her, to help children with Autism, and to help those mommies hear the words they deserve to hear.

Melissa helps run an organization called  Cookies for Ipads:giving children with autism a voice!

They are a group of mommies, who bake cookies and sell them, they then use 100% of the money raised to buy IPads for children with Autism!

This is the description of their group (Taken from their Facebook page)

I am the mother of a 5 year old adorable, full of life, little boy who was recently diagnosed with autism. After major research and hearing this and that, I have found that the Ipad is key for his advancement. We started a fundraiser for him, but for nights on end, I found myself not being able to sleep while thinking if the needs of others. So, I realized God was saying to my heart that it truly ...is better to give than to receive! SO, from that point forth I thought, do what you do best and give. I bake and I bake good!lol So, from there I invited several friends and they invited and so on and so on to do a bake sale. Here we are just a group of mommies, their friends, and their children's therapists who have decided to take this need by force. Research has shown that Ipads are a superior force in the lives of a child on the spectrum with special needs. We believe a child can become greater than they already are with one of these devices. However, these devices are not cheap, so we must do all we can do to provide to these little angels a tool that could change their lives! We are not a non-profit or a for profit organization. We are just mommies wanting to give our children a voice. May these cookies be as sweet as the need that they are providing.

In August of this year, they will be celebrating their one year anniversary, and having what they are calling "The Worlds Biggest Bake Sale" on July 28th

I used what resources I had, and put out an "All Points Bulletin" and humbly asked my cookier friends, to check out the page, and consider joining in!
And once again, they did not let me down, I think the last I heard over 27 bakers, from all over the county are sending cookies for this organization.  I am truly amazed and thankful that so many are joining in.  I can not wait to hear how it goes, and how many Autistic children will be getting IPads because of the generosity of others!

Now...I could not ask others to make cookies and not do any myself....so I fired up the oven, mixed some glaze...and started making cookies...Puzzle Cookies of course!

When Collin saw me working on so many puzzle cookies, he asked what they were for, when I explained where they were going.....he wanted to join in also..so I gave him a dozen cookies, some glaze and some sprinkles...and he started decorating too!  THIS is why I love Collin...he has a very kind and giving heart!

***Collin loves working on cookies, but just to keep it real, I did outline these cookies, but he flooded them and added the sprinkles***

He used a pair of tweezers to place on the sprinkles...that's my boy!

Collin said that he needed his OWN lable for HIS cookies....so this is what he came up with!

This was a great cookie project to work on and this is such a worthy cause, that is near and dear to my heart.  I encourage you to like their Facebook page to see some other the other amazing cookies that are on the way to the bake sale, you will be amazed!

Thank you Melissa, for letting me help you and your organization, and thank you to all the bakers who heard the call...and turned on the oven, make some great cookies, and sent them to Ohio....there are no words to express how truly thankful I am!

Hugs
Kim

Blogging...kinda like a puzzle...right?

Sooo...blogging day two...still trying to figure out this puzzle...I know there is a way to make it all come together to make a totally cool blog....I totally stalk other blog...I know that it is possible...it can be done...but how?

Let me say this right off the bat...a computer wiz, I am not....and probably never will be.  Blogging is like a some strange language to me.  What the heck is a widget...or gadget?   I want the top of my page to have the picture (logo) in the middle..is that the title...or the topper...or as I like to call it the Toppy Thing..it is a real term, google it....ok don't, cause I totally just made it up.  But Toppy Thing, I understand...blogging not so much!

So I will keep moving around stuff...clicking on buttons...moving little slide thingies...you know the stuff that people do when they have no idea what they are doing.
Yep, that is me...the lady that pushes every button, expecting a miracle...but no...not happening.

I have decided that blogging is a little like Autism.  It is a strange...oh so very strange....and no two blogs are alike, just like no two people with Autism are alike.  Heck, if all blogs were alike, I would get a little bored, cause I am a total blog stalker (that doesn't creep you out does it? ).  And people with Autism are all different, I think that is why it is a "spectrum" disorder, because the symptoms vary from person to person.

Take my son Collin, blue is is favorite color, followed by green..in that order every time.  And he likes "normal" blue, not light blue, or dark blue,  it must be royal blue...nothing else will do.  Same with the other colors...all normal colors...shades freak him out.

Now, I have had the honor of getting to know a sweet lady, by the name of Caron, of Bubbles Bath Boutique (find her here and here ...really go now...I will wait...she has the most amazing bath and body products...She sent me a honycomb soap...AMAZING..bye bye Oil of O*** shower gel) she has a daughter named Carlee, who is on the spectrum also.....Now Carlee...she likes the bright, neon colors...bright blues, pinks, greens, and purples.  That is just who she is and what she likes...shades don't freak her out.

Both primary colored cookies and neon cookies are great..cute..but different...so different blogs are different....and every person with Autism is different...but we still like them all...right?..right!...good!

Soo...to bring it all together, here is a little summary.....Blogs are confusing to me....I am one of those random button clicking persons....All blogs are different.....People with Autism are all different.

If you can hang with me a little bit..I promise I will get the hang of this.  Now each time you come back, things might look a little different, but you don't mind do you?

Here are a few more puzzle piece cookies that I did...I thought I might like them..I sure do...cause they are puzzle pieces...and, well, I have come to love puzzle pieces!
