Autism Awareness Cookie by Tami Rena's Cookies {Guest Post}

Hi everyone!!   I’m Tami, from Tami Renā’s Cookies.  I can not tell you how thrilled I was when Kim contacted me about doing a guest post to help bring awareness to autism. I have admired Kim’s bog for many, many months and have fallen in love with what she does.  I am also proud to call her my friend. Then there is Collin. The apple of her eye and the reason for “The Cookie Puzzle”. I absolutely ADORE him!!!!  One of these days I would like to “hire” him to design a cookie for me.  I have seen some of the designs he has done for Kim and feel that it is only fair that she share him ;)

Now, Kim told me that I did not have to limit myself to just cookies for this post, I could do anything I wanted as long as it was autism related. WHAT?? You mean there are other things out there that I could do other than cookies?!?!  I had no idea.  But now she has me intrigued, and I must check these “other” things out.

What I DID know was that my mind was spinning with the possibilities, “cookie think” is what we call it.  I would love to share with you one of my ideas and the reason behind it:

  • The Puzzle Piece:  Which I discovered symbolizes the complexity and mystery of autism. Even though this disorder is not easy to understand, it is worth understanding. Just like a puzzle.
  • The Ribbon Symbol:  This jigsaw ribbon has bright colors of red, blue and yellow. It is used to spread awareness, letting everyone know that whoever is wearing the ribbon is someone who understands and is supporting the cause.
  • The Butterfly Symbol:  This is a symbol of Hope, Change and Transition.

I love what all three of these things stand for.  How could I possibly not use one without using the other?

I have to admit that I am not personally affected with knowing someone with autism, but back in July of 2012, I did these cookies for Cookies for Ipads. Those cookies will always hold a very special place in my heart and I will do whatever I can to help bring awareness to this disability.  So for that reason, I am also dedicating my blog this month to puzzle pieces to help raise awareness, one cookie at a time.  So if you get a chance, please come visit me at Tami Rena's Cookies and see what I have come up with :)

Thank you so much Kim, for inviting me today.  Big giant cyber ((hugs)) coming your way.
